Kite JournalFriday May 6th, 2016This Day Is Just Dragon!gomberg watch, peter lynn watch, and fun with wind watch ... oh my!Well, I have to admit I have been one poor correspondent as of late. Actually for more than a year, really. I could explain and I probably should but mostly for now I would just like to say that life and other stuff got the best of me. While it was hard to keep up with my journal over the last year, let me asure you, kites still flew and fun was had! I eventually realized that I had fallen out of step with the ability to keep my Journal up-to-date and made a decision to not start back up until I was able to keep things going. So here I am, back and ready. ;-) With that, let's just jump in and see where this entry takes us. There is lots to report but let's just start with where we are today and work backwards when there is time to catch up on things. And right now things are hopping to say the least. We have been on a Gomberg Watch since late last week when I noticed a new entry on Gomberg's Factory page. Oh my, they had four of the new Peter Lynn Dragons for sale right there on their page. This was a suprise as we have seen pics and little else on the peter lynn site. so this was the first public offering of the Dragons as far as I knew. They still were not offered on the Peter Lynn site. I could not stop myself and quickly ordered the first one on the list, "Black with Aqua". And guess what, it has just been delivered! i will update later today after we get a chance to open the box and play a little ... update: (posted 5/9/2016) The Dragon is here, the Dragon is here! Well I've got to tell you the dragon is just awesome. It looks great and we cannot wait to get it into the air. But that Isn't going to happen today try as we may. The Aqua color turned out to actually be Blue. We checked to make sure that we had received the correct kite and found that Aqua was not available at the factory and the Kite had been assembled in Blue. Gomberg Kites had ordered Aqua but it unknowingly came back blue. Turns out the Blue looks wonderful so we decided to just be happy being happy. I also have to say that at different times both David and Susan Gomberg personally helped us with this order and they just could not have been more helpful and attentive. I am pretty sure Susan had to break some traffic laws dashing the Dragon to the post office with 30 mins to spare and in less than 48 hours later the Dragon had made it across the entire country from Oregon on the West Coast all the way to our little abode here in Florida. I made it to the field with about an hour of sunlight left and the wind was a constant breeze though not very strong. I setup the small sled using the new 880 lb test Blackline that had arrived today from Fun with Wind. This line seems lighter than the 500 lb. dacron I have been using but I am not sure if that is really true. Nonetheless i really like the reel that came with the line with a hub and crank system for easy windup. I set the anchor strap just as the wind lulled and that was it. I was able to pull the sled into the air but it soon fell. There would be no maiden dragon flight tonight. Maybe tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
