Kite JournalTuesday May 12th, 2015Finally A Flightyou see the pointOk, It's been awhile. I know. To keep things simple let's just skip forward to now. (for now) The pointer has been in the quiver for a while now. It was preowned but I am not sure if it had ever been flown. The kite is just wonderful and I feel lucky to have it in our collection. I've been wanting to fly it but there was always something else that needed to go up first and so it never did make it aloft. I finally make a point to fly it at Kitemania in February. Out on the field I went to assemble the kite and found that the nock had snapped off the end of the skyshark rod. So no flight was to take place on that day. Fast forward to last weekend when I used the epoxy I purchased months ago and now the nock is firmly attached and ready for a test. ![]() I connected the rods and assembled the kite. Then I stared at the bridle and wondered exactly what to do. At first it seemed simple enough but some things didn't quite make sense when I got down to actually pulling on the bridle and tensioning the frame. After a reference to ceewan's assembly notes i found on windswept kites website everything became clear and the kite took shape. I didn't quite tension the top mast area of the fabric and you can see a little ripple in the picutes. But mostly the test was successful. The wind was at zero under the tree canopy so the test flight was short lived. But the kite is light and obviously needs very little breeze to fly. Assembly and first flight test completed. This one will be flying high very soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
