Kite JournalTuesday October 15th, 2013Excitement Builds Once Again!even with the government shutdown getting in the wayOk, the government shutdown, slimdown, ridiculousness is getting in the way of kite research. Today, while pursuing the more interesting aspects of kite line and the weights and forces put upon them I tried to pull up a NASA page site for this article of theirs: Forces on a Kite - NASA Computer drawing of a box kite showing the forces which act on the kite - lift ... forces acting on the kite; the weight, the tension in the line, and the aerodynamic force. ... We break the tension into two components, the vertical pull Pv, and the ... But instead I got this message: Due to the lapse in federal government funding, this website is not available. We sincerely regret this inconvenience. For information about available government services, visit USA.gov. so .... rats! Reseach blockers. Boo. (UPDATE: the link is now working now that the shutdown is over , yay! ) But, as Eeyore says, that's ok, probably didn't need it anyway ... ... because ... like I said earlier ... excitement builds! We are headed for TI. That's Treasure Island, Florida baby! The wonderful expansive beach we like to call home two or three times a year. Home of this year's Kite Club Of The Year, Kiting Tampa Bay. It's a great place to fly and we cannot wait. We missed the Birthday Bash a few weekends ago due to scheduling problems and a touch of this year's cold and flu season. But we have mended, adjusted our reservations and are aiming for the beach. We will miss Kiting Tampa Bay this weekend as they will be flying at a balloon and air show in north Tampa. But we will be there on the beach with the Treasure Island Sports Kite Club and other kitefliers to have fun looking up at the sky. Gary Engvall is coming all the way from Rhode Island with his large octopus and trilobites. Peter Dolphin will be there with his big green octopus. Great people, Fun kites, it will be a great time. We plan to fly everything we can possibly get in the air and also will be testing and conducting a little research if we can get away with it. Details tomorrow. |
