Kite JournalTuesday September 10th, 2013Something Cool This Way Comeswatching, waiting, wondering...Fall is creeping in and a week from Sunday it will be officially in place. The coolness of the autumn temperatures can already be felt in the morning breeze. But it is still summer and today it's quite warm and in the low 90's. But it's also windy and that's freaking awesome. It's been downright calm all around here for weeks and now for some reason there is a bit of wind. It's lunchtime and I have been watching the wind all morning. Five, six miles per hour. Hmm ... 8 mph .... Hmmm ... 13 mph.. ok ok, I give. Off to the kite field it is. ![]() I already had every minute of lunch planned. Drive through Wendy's for a little fuel, a quick drive to our suburban post office to pick up a package and then back to work. I have a package waiting there. A cool package. One from Patrick Tan in Singapore. No it's not i-Prey's, just a small gaggle of iFlites with twin vents. As opposed to the single vented iFlites. I am looking forward to gliding these and hence my plan to spring them from the post office began. Now, wierdthing is, it's kinda hard to pick a package up from our post office. No really. They open at 9:30, close for lunch at 12, reopen at 1 and then close the office at 4:30. Those hours make it impossible to have a daytime job and visit their establishment. So it kinda has to happen at lunch. But today, the wind just blows and blows. So leaving Wendy's I turn the other way. In two minutes I'm at the field finishing my lunch then walk out to the nice grass of the baseball diamond and start to setup. ![]() After a few weeks off it was great to have lines in the sky. I flew the Rev B with 80 foot lines and lunch went by in a flash. The park is a bit squirrelly and it was hard to hover low to the ground but mostly the wind funneled through nicely and the Rev was only grounded a few seconds here and there. Other than the package from Patrick, we are also waiting on our latest order from Gomberg Kites. It was just placed yesterday, and the Kitepaloomas are just getting started, but some of it should arrive fairly soon. So that's pretty cool. A Gomberg Watch is definitely in effect! Tomorrow's lunchtime task, drive to the post office! |
