Kite JournalSunday March 31st, 2013Happy Easter Everyone!dinner and a flight
The wind blew and blew til I couldnt take it anymore and headed to the park. Nestled between a good meal and a playoff basketball game, I had a couple of hours to fly. Now with my normal flying playlist on the earbuds I setup in good strong winds. I chose the far end softball field as things seemed to be happening in the other various fields around the park. A few groups seemed to be families enjoying an easter picnic. The wind was strong and steady, at least ten miles per hour constant, with gusts near twenty. The RevB flew great as I left the ground and went straight up on one hundred twenty foot lines. With the wind so strong I could fly nearly directly above me. This was a spot I woiuld retreat to during gusts as the stress on the kite frame would cause it to bend greaty during the strong ones. I had been using a hybrid frame from combining the two and three feather rods. Something I learned from rev fliers on Treasure Island the day after the festival. This combination worked great as it seemed to give the kite a smoother flight. Well, the arrangment I had been using with two feather rods as the uprights was not enough to withstand too much wind and I actually popped an upright rod a few weeks ago. Anyway... currently I have three feather rods as my uprights. I spent most of my time in the air, setting down three times to adjust my earbuds or check the phone. There were probably more spins today than ever as I am getting a bit more experimental with the kite. I should have practiced my inverted hovers a bit more, but mostly i just went across the sky reveling in the abundant wind, stopping at the very top of the wind window whenever the wind would bend the kite a little too much. Holding the handles as steady as possible might seem best but if you kinda keep them moving, almost bouncing, then the kite actually becomes more fluid and flies stronger. Sorta like the way a single line kite perks up when you give a few quick tugs. So, a little music with a good beat can help keep your hands moving, and your kite dancing. The pull of the kite kept me leaning with a foot behind most of the time and more than once had me quickly running a step or two forward to maintain balance. Time had already flown by so I packed up and headed home with a smile. Another great time flying the Rev B. |
