Kite JournalMonday May 13th, 2013Taking It To The Extremesuper overlarge my order pleaseIt is another Monday and as one seems to come along every single week, I try to enjoy them. So, Happy Monday Everyone! First off I would just like to say that I do enjoy writing this little blog, so thanks for dropping by to catch up on my latest tidings and goings on in kiting. This site was born on July 13th of last year and it is still definitely evolving. Things are going quite well but there are many plans for changes and additions that should make their way to theses pages in the coming months. One big change to hopefully continue to evolve is my writing. Mostly there is a hope to stop using the word "I" so much. Which, as it turns out, is not very easy to do when writing a blog. But one shall try nonetheless. Some major events happened over the weekend without getting reported here. The Festivals and Events section on this site should soon have a lot more information on what is happening out in the kiting world with an emphasis on annual events. So please check that section over the coming month to find information, links, pictures, and youtube videos for many of the kiting events and gatherings in the United States and across the world. Back in March we attended the Spring Fun Fly on St. Augustine Beach here in Florida hosted by Rob and our good friends at Extreme Kites. It was a great kick off for this year's beach flying and we had a wonderful time. I still have not written a journal entry for that day but I sure hope to soon. I seem to hold off on journal entries when there is a lot to say, and then they get lost or forgotten. I am getting better though. Extreme Kites has a facebook page which you can see here. On their front page, since the fun fly in March, has been a cool picture of our kites! You can see our octopus, ray, and seahorse hanging out at the beach, right there on their front page! We are kinda liking that! Thanks Rob! Now one other extreme thing that I would like to point out today is something listed on Gombergs site. Now I like to go visit the Gomberg site quite often. It's really a cool place to go if you like big kites. And , well, I do! So, one thing that has been a slight downer has been the absence of any "Weekly Updates", which is their journal. There hasn't been an entry since the one in January, and for all intents and purposes it would seem that David Gomberg's blog has gone dark. This at first glimpse would seem very odd as this blog has been well kept for more than a decade starting back in September of 1999! Incredible! But have no fear as David was elected as a State Representive which is most likely stealing his blogging time as he no doubt he is taking his new duties seriously. But you can still see some changes occurring on the Gomberg site, just saunter on over to their Factory Outlet page to see the latest news or at least what's on sale. Which brings us back to the extreme. If you glance at their Factory Outlet page, at the top you will see the latest addition to my wish list. The Super Overlarge Octopus! It's (about) two hundred and fifty feet long and is going for a mere fifteen thousand dollars. I am starting a windstock fund drive to help save this poor animal and get it the exercise it deserves. So I just need a sponsoring big contributor. Anyone, anyone? |
