Kite JournalThursday May 9th, 2013The Last Of The Clownexcept for a few stringsTime is flying by once again and summer will be here in about a second. This is a wonderful time of year filled with lots of events and activites for us including vacation at the beach, birthdays, anniversaries, memorial day and the end of the school year. But what makes this year incredibly special is that my beautiful daughter is about to become a mother and somehow after all the smoke clears I will have become a grandfather! Incredible indeed. An incredibly joyful time of year for all of us. Now a grandfather flying kites almost seems cliche to me. But it's good work if you can get it so how can I complain. Life is good. My last sewing project, the Clownfish, was never wrapped up so let's address it a bit here. The clownfish is basically done. A little bridle is still needed so I will report when that is completed and hopefully fly the little fish soon. Other than the bridle I was able to finish the final sewing in short order last week. You may have seen the pictures i posted last Wednesday. It was a journal entry without a title. More pictures are posted below and they will all be added to the sewing projects page soon. I am really happy with the way it came out and that gives me a bit of confidence that I will be able to put together a larger one. It is a small fish, but I learned an enormous amount with this project. I will order some orange, white and black ripstop soon from kitebuilder or goodwinds in preparation for building a larger Clownfish sometime after June. Other sewing projects are stacking up as well. My wish list for sewing includes:
The list goes on and on, but my lastest pet project is a parafoil. I am thinking about ten square feet as a good size for the prototype hopefully to be followed up one day with a fifty square footer. I plan to create an airfoil shape and cut the templates soon. I have been working on a graphic for the front face of the kite. A final draft has been produced and now colors need to be selected. Templates for the graphic will be drawn once the final size of the foil can be determined. Here is a glimpse at a portion of the new foil graphic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
